A Secret Garden…
Rare hidden away beauties are seldom found but on the outskirts of Hazyview and in very close proximity to one of South Africa’s biggest and oldest national parks, the Kruger National Park, lies this little gem…
Highgrove Country House Hotel offers an intimate boutique affair while being tucked in a small little forest that gives you a feeling of romance and serenity. Privacy, elegance and an old-world charm awaits you on this working farm with its buzzing bees, fresh macadamia nuts and avocados in abundance.
Attention to detail with personal touches and a classic style describes every suite best, two of which offers you a picturesque swimming pool for the warmer Lowveld days, and cosy fireplace for the colder winter nights. Throughout this hotel is it clear that the aim has been for its guests to become one with nature, be it for the outside showers or for the stunning walkways leadings through the forest gardens to your suite.
The Spa invites their guests to de-stress and restore their energy and strength, whilst balancing body, mind and soul, all under the care of their well trained and qualified therapists. A visit to this Spa will leave you feeling refreshed, revitalised and rejuvenated.
The highlight of a visit to this award winning hotel is without a doubt their five course dinners, that can easily compete with any other Michelin Star Restaurant. The presentation of dinner is set in full splendour in their cosy dining room with beautifully decorated and set tables. They also make sure to add the personal touch at all times. They combine organic local ingredients from their own farm and makes use of what the farm has on offer. One pre-dinner appetiser for instance was crispy grilled chicken strips dazzled with macadamia nuts in a honey glaze sauce. To accompany your meals is a perfectly selected wine list. A cosy bar also sets the perfect atmosphere for pre-dinner drinks or a night cap later on. The two lounges bring a colonial flair but also gives a homely feeling with Persian-rugs, chandeliers, art pieces, collector’s items and antiques, which creates for the perfect spot to sit back and read a book, and if you want with a crackling fire in the background.
Except for the fact that it is a true sanctuary that you don’t want to leave, Highgrove Country House Hotel, true beauty lies in the fact that it is close to many attractions in the Lowveld and is it a mere 20 min drive to Numbi Gate that leads you to Pretoriuskop, one of the oldest camps of the Kruger National Park and where some of the first tourist huts were built in 1927. Thus, forming part of the tourism history of this area. Guests can then enjoy full days in the Kruger National Park and can cover areas such as Skukuza known for its predators but come back after your long day to your own little secret garden and sanctuary. Also in the area and a place to visit is the Graskop Gorge Lift, which is an excellent idea for a half day visit that forms part of the Blyde River Canyon.
Other close-by attractions include the Panorama Route, Chimpanzee Eden, the Elephant Sanctuary and the Sudwala Caves, and Dinosaur Park.
With a wonderful host, Johlene, who is always ready to assist with ideas and things to do and to attend to the special requests of all the guests, is it no wonder that this outstanding hotel has won various Travel Awards, including the World Luxury Hotel Awards and that they are once more a nominee for these prestigious awards in 2020.
Highgrove Country House Hotel, without a doubt a step above the rest.
